Hello friends, family, fellow travelers, and cruise-goers,
As you know, my husband and I are avid travelers. We traveled for work and pleasure, but surprisingly, we’ve only been on three cruises. All of our cruises have been with Royal and have had a great experience with all of them!
One of my best friends, Abby, is an avid cruiser. She has done a lot of cruises with norwegian and virgin, and also joined us for our last royal cruise. It’s her birthday in March and we decided to celebrate with a weekend cruise and a day at Disney. If you didn’t catch our Disney challenge last year, you can find that here!
This year we were “boring” and decided to do a half park day at Animal Kingdom and then hit up Disney Springs. It wasn’t boring at all, but compared to 4 parks in a day… It was much more relaxing. We had such a good time in Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. I feel like that day trip itself deserves its own blog, so catch that on the horizon!

🌟 Utopia of the Seas Overview
Let’s get back to business… our royal cruise. When we were researching cruises, we weren’t biased with any cruise company. We wanted to find a weekend cruise that was going out of Port Canaveral. We were also very specific with the dates we picked. With this in mind, we decided to book the 3 Night Bahamas and Perfect Day Cruise on the Utopia of the Seas with Royal Caribbean.
Let’s talk a little bit about Utopia of the Seas. Honestly, I feel like my older brother Nick should be talking about it, as he helped design some of it. How cool is that!? It was extremely impressive to see his work and honestly… I can’t wait to rave about it to ya’ll.
When you take a ship that sails just three nights and has 21 places to eat, 23 bars, five pools, three water slides, eight hot tubs, and two casinos, there’s just no way to be bored.
Utopia of the Seas was designed in 2020 and started sailing in 2024. Which honestly, is quite impressive that this was built in just four years. This ship holds 5,668 passengers. With that in mind, I never really felt crowded. On the last cruise, the only time I felt crowded was on the elevators. Again with the elevators, but I do think the elevator updates on Utopia really did make a difference. Of course during high traffic times, like embarkation, meal times, and disembarkation time, these elevators were super busy. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely got my steps in with all the stars.

Utopia of the Seas had an open floor plan and was easy to navigate. After seeing Utopia of the Seas, I can see how outdated the last cruise was. The ship almost feels like a “city”, with more events happening every day that you possibly couldn’t attend all of them. We will dig a little deeper into the restaurants, bars, and activities on the ship later on! Now that we’ve talked a little bit about the ship, let’s get into the nitty gritty about what the ship has to offer.
🍽️ Utopia of the Seas Dining
Let’s be real here… everyone cares about food, so we will discuss this first. What’s worse than attending a place all weekend and not having a good meal? Let’s talk about the places that are included in your cruise fare first.
🆓 Complimentary (included) dining
You can easily cruise without spending extra on food—there are tons of included options.
- Main Dining Room – classic multi-course dinners
- Windjammer Buffet – big international buffet (great for variety)
- Sorrento’s Pizza – quick slices late night
- El Loco Fresh – Mexican favorites (tacos, burritos)
- Park Café – sandwiches & light bites
- Boardwalk Dog House – hot dogs & casual eats
- Solarium Bistro – lighter, healthier options
- Café Promenade & Sprinkles – snacks + soft serve
🍽️ Main Dining Room on Utopia of the Seas
We ate all of our dinners at the main dining room. We really enjoyed all our meals.
The MDR isn’t just one room—it’s a huge, three-level restaurant spanning decks 3, 4, and 5.
- Elegant, “classic cruise” vibe (chandeliers, white tablecloths, big windows)
- Feels more like a formal restaurant than a buffet
- Different floors = different dining styles (more on that below)
👉 At night especially, it transforms into a full-service, upscale dinner experience rather than casual dining.
⏰ Dining styles (this is important)
You actually choose how you want to dine:
1. Traditional dining (structured)
- Early seating (~5:00 PM) or late (~7:30 PM)
- Same table + same waitstaff every night
- More “classic cruise” feel
👉 Great if you like routine and personal service. We signed up for this option!
2. My Time Dining (flexible)
- Show up anytime (typically ~6:45–9 PM)
- Different table/waiters each night
- Can reserve times in the app
👉 This is a great option if your group couldn’t get in the same time for dining.
🍴 What the food is actually like
🧾 Structure of the meal
Dinner is typically multi-course (included in your cruise fare):
- Appetizer
- Starter (sometimes soup/salad)
- Main entrée
- Dessert
You can order multiple items per course if you want.
🌎 Rotating menus
Menus change every night, often with themes (Caribbean, Italian, French, etc.).
👉 This is key: you won’t eat the same thing twice unless you want to.
🍤 Example dishes you’ll see
Some of options we had on Utopia:
Appetizers
- Shrimp cocktail
- French onion soup
- Caesar salad
- Calamari
Entrées
- Filet mignon
- Prime rib
- Herb-crusted lamb
- Seared salmon
- Seafood pasta
- bolognese
- Vegetarian risotto
👉 Our table raved about the steak options! Unfortunately… I don’t eat beef, so I can’t speak of that! I had seafood every night and it was so good!
Desserts
- Cheesecake
- Chocolate cake
- Apple cobbler
- Cruise-famous molten lava cake
👉 Get the apple cobbler. It was to die for!
💰 Specialty dining (extra cost)
We didn’t do any speciality dining experiences. This is definitely a sore subject for one of the people that attended. He wanted to do hibachi and we didn’t.
⭐ Standouts
- Royal Railway – Utopia Station
- Immersive train-themed dinner with a story + visuals
- One of the most unique dining experiences at sea
- Izumi Hibachi & Sushi
- Japanese teppanyaki + sushi + omakase-style meals
- Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen
- Classic Italian with pizza, pasta, and ocean views
- Chops Grille
- Steakhouse (popular for date night)
- Hooked Seafood
- Coastal seafood, lobster rolls, etc.
- 150 Central Park
- Upscale, chef-driven tasting menu
👉 Expect 10+ specialty restaurants, most requiring reservations and an extra fee.
🍽️ Windjammer on Utopia of the Seas
🧭 Overall vibe
Windjammer is the main buffet on the ship—your go-to for quick, casual meals any time of day. We ate the majority of our breakfast and lunches at the windjammer.
👉 Think:
- Big, open buffet space
- Multiple food stations
- Eat as much as you want, whenever you want
It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, making it one of the most convenient dining options onboard.
🍳 Food quality & variety
🥇 The standout: variety
Almost every review agrees on this:
- Huge range of food at every meal
- Mix of American classics + international dishes
- Rotating options daily
You’ll typically find:
- Carving stations (steak, meats)
- Asian dishes (fried rice, stir fry)
- Indian options (like vegetable bhaji)
- Pasta, burgers, salads, seafood
👉 Tip: Definitely try the strawberry hard ice cream!
🍽️ Solarium Bistro (hidden gem)
Located inside the Solarium adults only area:
- Healthier, lighter buffet-style food
- Breakfast is especially popular
- Quieter than Windjammer
- Had the best shrimp and lobster tails.
One cruiser said:
“Breakfast here was hot, well-prepared, and much calmer than the buffet”
And reviews consistently mention it as a “peaceful alternative dining spot” with fresh, lighter fare
🍸 Utopia of the Seas Bars & Drinks Guide
Drink Packages
Royal Caribbean offers three different drink packages on their website/app. Check out the three drink packages below. You are also able to buy drinks (alcoholic/non-alcoholic) by the drink. We bought the unlimited drink option. This option included water, soda, and alcohol at all the restaurants and bars. We mainly used it for the alcohol, water, and gatorade zero on board. You have to use one of the special royal caribbean cups if you purchase a package. If you purchase the package online, you can redeem the cup at any of the bars.

Nick and I read a lot of reviews on the drink packages. They always have “deals” on drink packages, but are they really a deal? I feel like next time, I need to just add up my drinks and see if i really get the use of the drink package. My only worry would be that my cheap husband wouldn’t get a drink if he wanted. Sorry, not sorry, Nick. Let’s talk a little bit about all the drink spots on the cruise.
🍹 Overall vibe
Utopia has ~19+ bars and lounges spread across the ship, each with its own theme and vibe—from chill garden cocktails to full-on party spots. With 19+ bars and lounges, it makes it so difficult to make it to all of them.
👉 The key idea:
- Daytime = pool bars & frozen drinks
- Night = music, cocktails, and themed lounges
🍸 Signature & “must-see” bars
🚡 Rising Tide Bar (the moving bar)
- Travels between 3 decks like an elevator
- One of the most iconic cruise bars anywhere
- Serves classic cocktails while you move between neighborhoods
👉 More about the experience than the drinks—but still a must-do. I did really enjoy their espresso martini

🦜 Pesky Parrot (tiki bar)
- Bright, tropical, Polynesian theme
- Rum-heavy, fruity cocktails
Popular drinks:
- Peanut butter piña colada twist
- Mai Tai-style drinks
- Frozen cocktails

- 3 separate bars across pool decks
- THE party bar during the day
Signature drinks:
- Lime & Coconut cocktail (Malibu + coconut + guava + lime). I honestly wasn’t a fan!

👉 Expect DJs, dancing, and strong drinks.

🍹 Chill & specialty vibe bars
🌿 Trellis Bar (Central Park)
- Garden setting with live music at night
- Great pre-dinner cocktail spot

👉 Also features rare bourbons you can’t easily find elsewhere
🎶 Boleros (Latin nightlife)
- Salsa dancing + live Latin music
- Mojitos, caipirinhas
👉 Turns into a dance club at night.
🎹 Schooner Bar
- Classic piano bar
- Singalongs, martinis, old-school cocktails
- Highlights: espresso martini on tap and toasted marshmallow old fashion.
- We really enjoy this bar on every Royal cruise we go on!
👉 Feels like a traditional cruise lounge.*
🍺 Casual & fun bars
🍺 Bell & Barley (English pub)
- Beer, cocktails, live acoustic music

🎭 Utopia of the Seas — Activities & Entertainment Review
🧭 Overall vibe
Utopia isn’t just a cruise—it’s designed to feel like a nonstop entertainment resort.
👉 Key idea:
- Short cruises (3–4 nights)
- Packed schedules
- High-energy, almost “Vegas at sea”
You’ll rarely be bored—there’s something happening literally every hour.
🎬 Shows & productions (the main attraction)
Nick and I are busy people even on vacation. Don’t get me wrong, I love relaxing by the pool, but what if the weather isn’t cooperating or what if we’ve laid by the pool enough? On our first cruise, we did worry that we would be bored just relaxing by the pool. After we went on our first cruise, we learned that there’s no way to be bored on a cruise. This isn’t a worry on all the Royal cruises we’ve been on, but definitely not Utopia of the Seas. They offered so many different activities on the boat, there were times where we had a hard time choosing which one to do! Honestly, there were so many activities that we didn’t get too. I do wish we stayed on the boat when we docked for at least one day. Our trip didn’t have an at sea day and I really missed it! I’ll talk a little bit about our excursions later on. These are some of the group’s highlights of Utopia of the Seas.
💦 AquaTheater – Aqua80Too (MUST SEE)
This is widely considered the best show on the ship. Fun fact: My brother helped design what they dive off of.
- High diving, acrobatics, synchronized swimming
- Massive outdoor theater
- 80s music theme
👉 TIPS:
- Arrive early for good seats. The question is, are there really bad seats?
- Don’t sit in the front row, unless you want to be splashed. The stadium is set up kind of like the seaworld stadium. (Trust me, I don’t want to compare anything positive to seaworld).
- Reservations needed ASAP. FYI if it’s booked on the app prior to sailing day, you can book it when you get on the boat.
- Standing room if you miss out

🎭 Royal Theater – All In
- Original production (not Broadway)
- Combines singing, dancing, aerial effects, and tech
👉 Reviews say:
- Visually impressive
- Not as memorable as Broadway shows on other ships
⛸️ Ice show – Youtopia
- Ice skating + drones + lighting effects
- Honestly, so impressive!
- Again fun tip, my brother helped design this!
👉 Unique mix you don’t usually see on cruise ships.
😂 Comedy & smaller shows
- Stand-up comedy (adult-only late night)
- We attended the 10:30pm comedy show and it was so worth staying up for (We have a lot of early night friends)! It was hysterical!
- Game shows like:
- Friendly Feud
- Battle of the Sexes
- Majority Rules
- The price is right
- We wish we attended this! This will be on our must see list in the future!
👉 These are surprisingly fun and interactive.
🎉 Nightlife & parties (huge part of Utopia)
This is where Utopia REALLY leans into its identity.
🔥 Signature parties
- Silent Toga Party (headphones + DJ)
- RED nightclub party (adults-only)
- Royal Kappa Chi (college-style throwback party)
- Pool deck parties day & night
👉 Expect:
- Loud music
- Packed dance floors
- Party vibe almost every night
🎤 Karaoke & live music
- Karaoke lounges
- Live bands across the ship (rock, jazz, Latin, acoustic)
👉 You can bounce between venues like a mini music festival.
🏄 Activities & things to DO
🛝 Thrill & sports activities
- Ultimate Abyss (giant dry slide)
- Again, my brother helped design this one!
- It was so much fun and actually went really fast!

- FlowRider surf simulator
- Rock climbing wall
- Zip line
- I so wish I did this… Not enough time on a weekend!
- Water slides
- This year Nick didn’t lose his contacts in the slide. It was a good day. Well… he helped prevent it.

🎯 Casual & fun activities
- Trivia games
- Scavenger hunts (Crazy Quest)
- Game shows
- Poolside contests
👉 These fill in the downtime between big events.
- Adventure Ocean kids club (huge program)
- Utopia Playscape (interactive playground)
👨👩👧👦 Family & kids zones
👉 Very family-friendly despite party reputation.
⚖️ Pros vs cons
✅ Pros
- Huge variety of shows and activities
- AquaTheater = standout, world-class
- Great nightlife & party scene
- Something happening all the time
- Appeals to both families and adults
❌ Cons
- Crowded (especially short sailings)
- Reservations required for top shows
- Can feel hectic or overwhelming
- Not ideal if you want a quiet cruise
🛏️ Utopia of the Seas Accommodations — Full Review
🧭 Overall vibe
Utopia has 2,800+ staterooms across 37 categories, so there’s something for every budget and travel style.
👉 The big idea:
- Rooms are modern, efficient, and well-designed
- Not huge (unless you upgrade to suites)
- You’ll likely spend more time outside your room than in it
- You could definitely tell differences in the Utopia of the Seas rooms compared to the older cruise ships.
🏨 Types of rooms (from cheapest → most luxury)
🛌 Interior cabins (budget option)
What they’re like:
- ~150–170 sq ft
- No real window (some have “virtual balcony” screens)
- Compact but functional
👉 Best for:
- Budget travelers
- People who just need a place to sleep
Real talk (from reviews):
- Clean and efficient
- Can feel tight for 3–4 people
- No natural light
🌊 Oceanview cabins
What you get:
- Window with natural light
- Slightly larger feel than interiors
👉 Good middle ground if you:
- Want sunlight
- Don’t care about a balcony
🌅 Balcony cabins (most popular)
What they’re like:
- ~180 sq ft room + ~50 sq ft balcony
- Sliding glass doors
- Private outdoor space
Why people love them:
- Morning coffee with ocean views
- Fresh air (huge upgrade from interior rooms)
- Feels more “vacation-like”
Downsides:
- Bathrooms are still small
- Not dramatically bigger than interior rooms

We opted for an ocean balcony room.
🌳 Unique balcony views (very “Utopia”)
These are signature to Oasis-class ships:
🌿 Central Park View
- Overlooks a real garden with live plants

🎡 Boardwalk View
- Overlooks entertainment area + ocean at the back
👉 Cool concept—but:
- Less privacy
- Not full ocean view
👨👩👧 Family cabins
🛏️ Spacious Interior / Family rooms
- Can sleep up to 6 people
- Bunk beds + sofa beds + main bed
👉 Good for families—but:
- Tight layout
- Better if kids are younger
🏆 Suites (where things get impressive)
Utopia really shines here.
🛋️ Junior Suites (entry-level suite)
- ~290 sq ft
- Sitting area + larger bathroom
- Balcony included
👉 Good upgrade without going crazy expensive
🏡 Grand & Owner’s Suites
- Separate bedroom + living room
- Large balconies
- Bathtubs + double sinks
👉 Feels like a small apartment at sea
🎭 AquaTheater Suites (fan favorite)
- Huge wraparound balconies
- Views of shows + ocean
From real cruisers:
“We can watch the shows from our room… completely different experience”
👉 One of the most unique room types on any cruise ship.
🌅 Solarium Suite (new + ultra-premium)
- Floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows
- Separate bedroom + living space
- Incredible forward-facing views
👉 Comes with Star Class perks, including:
- Private concierge (“Royal Genie”)
- Unlimited dining & drinks
- VIP access everywhere
👑 Royal Loft Suite (top tier)
- ~1,500+ sq ft + massive balcony with jacuzzi
- Two-story layout
- Floor-to-ceiling windows
👉 Basically a luxury penthouse on a ship.
🧠 What the rooms actually feel like
👍 What people like
- Smart storage (drawers, closets, hidden space)
- This was definitely upgraded from the older ships.
- Comfortable beds
- Clean, modern design
- Balconies are a huge upgrade
- Hooks for bathing suits and wet clothes.
- More outlets.
- THANK GOD!
🧠 Pro tips (this matters A LOT)
- 💡 Balcony is worth it if budget allows
- 📍 Midship cabins = less motion
- 🛗 Stay near elevators if you want convenience
- 👨👩👧 For families → consider connecting rooms instead of cramming into one
🧑✈️ Utopia of the Seas — Service Review
🧭 Overall verdict
Service on Utopia is generally:
👉 Good—but inconsistent depending on where you are and when you go
Some cruisers reviews noticed a dip compared to older Royal Caribbean ships:
- Reports of “less staff enthusiasm”
- Service can feel more transactional than personal
- Less time for interaction due to high passenger volume
👉 Translation:
You’ll get what you need—but not always that “wow” hospitality.
🧹 Housekeeping & cabin service
👍 Strong point overall
- Cabins consistently described as clean and well-maintained
- Daily service is reliable
- Beds, bathrooms, and towels handled efficiently
👉 This is one of the most consistent positives across reviews. We had a really good experience with our room attendant! She was awesome.

🍽️ Dining service
🍴 Main Dining Room
- Usually attentive and friendly
- Servers often remember preferences (especially traditional dining)
- I really thought our waiter/assistant waiter was really personal on our last cruise on the Independence of the Seas/Navigator of the Seas. I thought the water and assistant waiter were great on Utopia of the Seas, but I wouldn’t describe them as personable.
🍽️ Buffet (Windjammer)
- Staff keeps things clean and stocked
- Interaction is minimal
👉 More functional than service-focused.
🍹 Bar service
👍 What works
- Bartenders are skilled and fast
- Good variety of drinks
👎 Common complaint
- Drink service can feel inconsistent
- Long waits at busy bars (especially poolside)
🚢 Embarkation & logistics (surprisingly strong)
This is actually one of the best-rated service areas:
- Boarding often takes ~20 minutes or less
- Smooth check-in and disembarkation
- Well-organized port process
👉 For a ship this size, that’s impressive.
🎭 Service during activities & shows
👍 Good:
- Staff keeps shows organized
- Crew helps manage crowds
👎 Issues:
- Some confusion around lines or reservations
- Not always clear guidance for guests
⚖️ Pros vs cons
✅ Pros
- Friendly, hardworking crew
- Excellent cabin cleanliness
- Smooth boarding process
- Strong service in main dining & suites
❌ Cons
- Inconsistent experience depending on crowd levels
- Impersonal
- Bar and specialty dining service varies
- Less “luxury feel” than smaller ships
🧠 Real cruiser takeaway
From across reviews, the most accurate summary is:
👉 Service is solid—but not the main reason to book this ship
- You’re here for:
- Entertainment
- Food variety
- Activities
- Not for:
- Ultra-personalized, luxury-level service
🌴 Coming Next…
I’ll be sharing a full blog on:
- Excursions
- Perfect Day at CocoCay
Trust me… it deserves its own post.
