Discovering Leavenworth, Washington: A Bavarian Escape in the Cascades

We are going to rewind a little bit, back to 2023!

When my husband and I did travel nursing, we visited so many good places. One of my favorite places we visited was Leavenworth. Leavenworth is a charming Bavarian-themed village nestled in the Cascade Mountains. Leavenworth, Washington, is a picturesque alpine village that transports visitors straight to the heart of Bavaria. Located just over two hours east of Seattle, this charming town offers a delightful blend of German culture, outdoor adventures, and festive celebrations year-round.

🎉 Year-Round Festivals and Events

Leavenworth’s calendar is packed with events that celebrate its Bavarian heritage and the changing seasons: Nick and I visited Leavenworth during the summer, but honestly I’ve heard it’s incredible in the winter. If you are looking to embrace all the christmas markets and christmas spirit, I’d highly recommend making your trip in December. Leavenworth does have year long festivals, which is incredible! 🍺 A Taste of Bavaria in the Pacific Northwest

Leavenworth’s transformation into a Bavarian-themed village began in the 1960s, revitalizing the town and attracting visitors with its authentic German architecture and ambiance. Strolling through the pedestrian-friendly downtown, you’ll encounter colorful buildings adorned with flower boxes, traditional beer gardens, and a variety of German-inspired eateries.

Must-Visit Spots in Leavenworth:

München Haus: Enjoy bratwurst and pretzels in a lively beer garden setting.
Andreas Keller Restaurant: Savor authentic schnitzel while listening to live folk music

Colchuck Lake: Located 35 minutes from downtown Leavenworth. Honestly the views were incredible.

If you can’t tell by Nick’s face, he wasn’t pleased. This hike turned out to be a little harder than we expected.

BUT, these views were perfect and worth it!!

Leavenworth Reindeer Farm: Interact with domesticated caribou and learn about their conservation.

These reindeer were hungry! The baby just really wanted to eat my dress.

Bushel and Bee Taproom: more than 20 taps of cider, beer and mead!
Shop at the Leavenworth community farmers market: we found some really cool local art!
Gingerbread Factory: Who doesn’t love homemade warm cookies?!

Icicle Brewing Company: Taste locally brewed beers in a cozy, lodge-like atmosphere.

Leavenworth offers a range of accommodations to suit every traveler. We had an assignment in Everett, Washington at the time, so we made this a day trip! Popular places to stay in Leavenworth:
