Hello from Anchorage, Alaska! We are currently on our second assignment in Anchorage, Alaska. We have about two weeks left… I can’t believe it. I feel like we are running out of time. We still have so much we want to explore and do. We end our second Alaska contract on July 20th. We recently just booked Katmai National Park and Lake Clark National Park. These were definitely on our bucket list, and we are so excited to do them. I also got Nick an activity in Juneau for his birthday. So, we recently visited Juneau and loved it! Travel nurses, Alaska is not a money making assignment. It’s a memory making assignment! We’ve recently explored Seward, Alaska for the second time. The first time was in March for a whale watch and we went a second time to do some hiking. Let’s talk about Seward!
Where is Seward?
As you’re reading this, you are probably asking yourself, where Seward, Alaska is. After you arrive at the airport in Anchorage, you drive two hours south to a beautiful coastal town. Seward is a small coastal town surrounded by mountains and of course, the blue glacier water. It’s honestly breathtaking. Kenai Fjords National Park is located in Seward, along with a cruise port, making Seward a popular tourist destination.
Getting to Seward
When it comes to getting to Seward, there are three options from Anchorage. You can drive, take the drain, or fly. The both times Nick and I visited, we drove from Anchorage.
Weather in Seward
I am laughing as I am writing about the weather. The first time we went in late March, weather.com said it would be in the 50’s. I packed some summer dresses with sweaters/jean jackets. I thought I was set for a good weekend. Little did I know, our whale watch would be in the 20’s with snow. Seward is on the coastline, making for temperamental weather. Layers are definitely important and it rains all the time in Seward! Dress appropriately, so you’ll be able to enjoy your exploring!

Where to Stay in Seward
I can’t really speak to any hotels around the area. We stayed in an Airbnb the first time we went to Seward. The second time we went to Seward, we did a day trip from Anchorage. The Airbnb we stayed in was close to down and very cozy. Would definitely recommend it.
Things to Do in Seward
There is so much to do in Seward. The sightseeing of the coast and mountains will keep you busy. There’s truly something for everyone in Seward, whether you are outdoorsy or enjoy some shopping.
Kenai Fjords Tour
Choose a half or full day boat excursion in Seward to explore Kenai Fjords National Park. Marine tours give a close up of Alaska Wildlife, glaciers, and mountains. We did our tour with Kenai Fjords Tours, and had a great experience. I highly recommend this experience to anyone going to Seward.
Visit Exit Glacier
The second time we went to Seward, we visited the exit glacier. Exit Glacier is about a 15 minute drive outside of downtown Seward. It was a beautiful easy hike. There are signs on the drive and the hike, showing how far, by date the glacier once stood. Pretty cool to see!

Deep Sea Fishing
Whether you are a fisherman or not, fishing in Alaska is supposed to be an incredible experience. Unfortunately, we haven’t done any fishing in Alaska. One of the most popular companies is Alaska Dream Charters
Alaska Sealife Center
The Alaska Sealife Center is great for a rainy day or if you are interested in learning about the local wildlife. Admission is $30.00. I would recommend this to anyone during a rainy day, but not sure I would recommend it over other outdoor activities

Visit downtown Seward
Downtown Seward has a lot of great local shops. I suggest grabbing a coffee, and just exploring downtown. It’s definitely a walkable downtown area with sidewalks. Parking is available downtown. You have to pay for parking. Also, the views are beautiful!

Let’s Eat, but where?
There are a lot of cute restaurants and coffee shops in downtown Seward.
The Highliner Restaurant
We tried this restaurant and thought it was mediocre. It has a lot of great reviews.

Start planning your trip to Seward. I definitely can’t wait to hear about your wildlife tours, and what you see. I’m definitely an animal person. I always tell my husband that I hope my retirement is full of whale watches. Stay up to date with all things travel, nursing, and of course Flicks_withNick’s movie reviews.
