Boy Stinks World

The latest review from Flicks_withNick is the 2024 action comedy Boy Kills World. The movie stars Bill Skarsgard as Boy, with accompanying commentary by H. Jon Benjamin. The movie is directed by Mortiz Mohr. The movie currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 62%.

The movie is about the main character Boy, who has his sister killed when they were young, and spends years seeking revenge on the woman who killed her Hilda Van Der Koy. Set in a Hunger Games type world, where every year people are killed, who are deemed enemies of Hilda, who leads a future dystopian world. The boy is mute and deaf, so the entire movie is narrated by his own thoughts. We see him trained as a young boy by a mysterious drug addicted Shaman, and grows up to be a martial arts death machine. When one of the annual killings of Hilda’s enemies occurs, Boy reveals himself as the killing machine he is, and the rest of the movie is a revenge rampage, gory killing spree, as he works his way towards killing Hilda.

You ever had too much candy, and you ended up not wanting another bite, and found it gross? That’s how I felt with the over the top action scenes in the movie. At first I thought it could be fun and thrilling, but eventually I got bored, and just wanted the movie to end. I wasn’t entertained with any of the action, as it was your generic action set piece after set piece.

Instead of an actual story plot, they just make joke after joke, in between his killing sprees. There was one scene that I found hilarious, and all I’ll say is “sticky fingers”. For the rest of the jokes, I found flat.

The voice of H. Jon Benjamin was played through the whole movie, as he voiced the thoughts of Boy. As some people might know, H. Jon Benjamin voices Bob in Bob’sT Burgers, and Sterling Archer in Archer. I couldn’t get Archer and Bob out of my head while watching this movie. He is a tremendous voice actor, but maybe he’s too famous for this part. Kind of how Orson Welles wasn’t considered for the voice of Darth Vadar, as his voice was too recognizable.

Typically with these type of movies I can say you can “turn your brain off and enjoy”, but there was no redeeming qualities. The cartoony action scenes, along with the laugh less comedy scenes, made this another good nap for my wife. Unfortunately I would say this is a skip for me, even though it has amazing actors Bill Skarsgard and Famke Jansen.

I give this movie a 1.2 out of 5. The only reason for the high score is the one hilarious scene in the movie.
