A review of an Alaska furnished finder

Hello from Nashua, New Hampshire and Portland, Maine! We are currently off between contracts spending time with family and friends. The flight from Alaska to Boston was pretty brutal. It’s always so worth it! The first weekend we were home, we had a bachelor/bachelorette party for my brother Michael, and his future wife, Emily. We had a lot of fun. We rented a home in New London, New Hampshire. This rental was truly spectacular, and an awesome place to host an event. Sean and Cara truly have a beautiful home. Check out the New London, New Hampshire rental for future events! The theme of the weekend was games. My brother Nick and I created a Bridal Olympics. This was a lot of fun to create, and also to participate in. Check out the bridal olympics and comment if you need any suggestions of creating a bridal olympics.

Nick and I started looking for assignments about six weeks ago. Travel nursing money has definitely declined over the last year. You need to be careful if the assignment is worth the money.  I applied for an internal contract in Nashville about six weeks ago. Nick and I were really wanting this job. Unfortunately, they don’t like to approve time off in a 13 week assignment. When I was told this, I let the hiring staff know that I would have to withdraw my application. I informed them that I was able to work full time, and not have to take time off, but have the weekend off. They stated they probably couldn’t  accommodate that request. At this point, I moved on and started looking at different assignments. If Nashville wasn’t going to happen, then we wanted to move forward with extending our Alaska assignment. The hospital in Alaska offered a great contract. The pay would remain the same, every other weekend, accommodation of my start date, and of course, time off for my brother’s wedding. With this deal, along with my positive experience at the hospital, It was an easy decision to sign. My recruiter at Aya really made a great deal. Barb is truly the best and if you are in need of a recruiter , reach out to me!   Of course, the day we signed the Alaska contract, Nashville called with a job offer (they could finally accommodate my weekend off). I am honestly so excited for extending Alaska. I know it wasn’t my first choice, but I’ve had a really great experience at this hospital, and have loved exploring the area. I typically like to do a recap of the hospital and town, but will wait as the contract is extended.

I always like to do a little recap, when I start reviewing an assignment or a furnished finder. My name is Dominique Bryant, and I’m a travel nurse currently traveling the United States, with my husband. My husband Nicholas works in finance, and works from home. He is able to travel with me. We recently got married in October 2021, and decided to start travel nursing. I started travel nursing because I was very burnt out from COVID, and my primary nursing job in Maine. We recently just finished an assignment in Anchorage, Alaska. Alaska was always a dream assignment, and I was so excited to start. We really enjoyed this assignment! Follow my instagram for our adventures in Alaska at @travelingbeebryantRN.I wanted to talk about the furnished finder that we used during assignment #7.

We rented an apartment in Anchorage, Alaska on the Turnagain Arm. We rented this apartment from furnished finders. This apartment was rented for 1,300 a month including utilities. The furnished finder was labeled room with a view. It honestly had the best view. It was one of the best perks of the apartment.

The Turnagain Arm Apartment was a one bedroom apartment and 1.5 bath overlooking the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge. It had views of the ocean and the large backyard. The backyard had a hot tub available for our use only. It was definitely a great perk and we loved going in it.

The top photo is also the backyard!

The apartment was originally a two bedroom, 1.5 bath, and kitchen. They have converted the apartment to have a living room, bedroom, kitchen and 1.5 baths after reviews from other tenants.  The apartment was definitely on the smaller side. Honestly, we really only noticed it, when it came to the kitchen. The apartment was a mother-in-law apartment attached to the main house, with a private entrance.

Entrance was the red door!

The apartment came with a parking spot. When you entered the private entrance, you walked into a mudroom with laundry. It also had a larger fridge than the one in the kitchen. Honestly, if you had to ask me what the biggest con of this apartment was, It’s definitely the size of the two fridges. The kitchen is very small, which means they only could include a small fridge. This makes it difficult in terms of food prep and buying bulk.

The apartment was nicely furnished and had the essential kitchen appliances. If you have read my previous review on other apartments, you know that Nick and I prefer not a lot of clutter. This apartment did great at that, in which, the kitchen cabinets weren’t full of useless items.

The bedroom had a queen sized bed with a large closet. We were disappointed that it did not have any drawers for things like socks and underwear. Nick and I found a small cabinet at goodwill and repurposed this. We left it at the apartment for future tenants to use. The bed was very comfortable and had great storage.

The living room had a comfortable couch, chair, and coffee table. We ended up using this coffee table as a place to eat dinner. Nick used the dining room as a desk. This was a perk to us, as we didn’t have to find a desk and chair.

The apartment was in a great location. It was 6.3 miles away from the hospital, and close in proximity to the grocery store, Target, and approximately 3 miles to Orangetheory. The landlords living in the primary house were super nice and accommodating. We loved renting from them, and had a great experience. As any other mother-in-law apartment, the privacy lacks in some sort of way, but the landlords really attempted to help create privacy.

I would suggest this apartment to any healthcare professional looking for an apartment in Anchorage. The only reason why we are not staying in this apartment is because it was already rented for the summer. The only negative thing about this apartment was the fridge situation. I also wanted to touch on privacy in the apartment. The apartment is separated by the kitchen sliding door. Therefore, if someone is talking in either kitchen, you can hear each other. Nick and I used to hear the dog drink, and say “the doggy is thirsty”. This wasn’t an issue for us, but for someone who prefers privacy, this may be a deal breaker. The landlord does a great job about maintaining privacy otherwise.

If you are interested in the apartment, check out this furnished finder link, and reach out to the landlord. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me! Thanks for listening. Off to bed before we head to Maine tomorrow for the day. Maine will forever be our home, and I always look forward to visiting.
