The latest review from Flicks_withNick is the 2024 masterpiece Dune: Part Two. The movie brings back stars Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atredies, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Josh Brolin as Gurney. Newcomers to the movie are Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, and Chrisopther Walken, as the Emperor. The movie is directed by one of the best directors right now, Denis Villeneuve. The movie currently has a 94% rotten Tomato score, with a 95% Audience Score.
The movie starts right where the first Dune left off. We saw Paul and his mother, Jessica being chased by Harkonnens. They are now currently being helped by the freman who inhabits the planet Arrakis. If you haven’t seen the first movie in a while, don’t worry, we get a quick exposition from Princess Irulan, to get us up to speed. (I still think it helps to watch the first movie though, as the first 20 minutes might seem a little confusing, but I don’t find it necessary)
The movie is about the rise of Paul Atredias to lead the Freman, and fulfill the prophecy that the older Freman believe in. The struggle of power over the planet of Arrakis against the Harkonnens. Paul has to decide if he will follow his heart for his love over Chani, or follow his destiny that’s been chosen for him. The movie all plays out with breathtaking visuals, and an awesome fight scene at the end of the movie. We even get a better shout out to the movie title Dune in this movie, over this first part by Baron Harkonnen.
My favorite character in this movie was Feyd-Raute. I thought Austin Butler’s character brought a compelling menace to the movie. I honestly think he’s one of the best movie villains since the Joker in The Dark Knight. I know you’ll say I’m being “prisoner of the moment”, but can you name a better villain that was more feared than him? One of the more badass scenes, is where he makes someone kiss his feet. Never thought when I saw the Elvis movie, l’d say that Austin Butler would make a great movie villain, I was definitely proven wrong.
Having most of the film placed on the planet Arrakis, the film is able to give you beautiful shots of the desert, and the open world. You’ll definitely get Lawrence of Arabia vibes while watching this movie. For those who haven’t seen that movie, think of the beginning of the first Star Wars movie. The only scene where I thought the CGI was a little off, was the intro to Feyd-Rauta in the dome. I find it’s still hard to have special effects on huge crowds. The rest of the movie though is flawless, and shot beautifully.
Expect this movie to be around for the Oscars in 2025 for categories like Cinematography, film editing. and Special Effects.
I can say this about any movie, but I strongly encourage you to see this in the theaters, and see it on the best screen quality provided. I saw it on IMAX and it was beautiful. This movie will do no justice if you wait to see it on your phone or on a laptop. This is my favorite movie so far for 2024, and they’ve set the bar real high.
I give this movie a 4.5/5.

A little story about my picture. My wife moved into my apartment when we got engaged. My room was filled with movie posters, hanging up with duct tape. I can still see her putting the pink decorative pillows on the bed, with the movie posters. Her response was, “this isn’t gonna work for me”. If anyone wants to know, those posters stayed until we moved out. Little does she know, they are in storage waiting for us to buy a house. I’ll just have to make sure they are framed, as I’m in my 30’s now lol.
