Hello December

Happy December! I can’t believe this year is coming to an end. My Omaha,Nebraska contract just ended this past week. I can’t wait to go into a deep dive review of my contract, the furnished finder, and the hospital. Long story short, I asked the hospital to extend a few weeks to mid December.  Unfortunately, the hospital declined the extension. They said they would accept the extension, if I was willing to extend into Mid January, and work all the holidays. They declined a lot of travelers’ short extensions. Ultimately, I declined this offer. Nick and I don’t plan on travel nursing for much longer, so we want to take advantage of the flexibility, and the holidays off. Also, what company makes an individual work every holiday from Columbus day through New Years.  I know I’m not. Right now, I am working retail seasonal at Old Navy, and doing Instacart until we head home to NH and ME for the holiday. It has been a different change of pace. I work Monday through Friday, and we are using our free time to continue to explore Christmas in Nebraska!

Definitely a different outfit than the normal scrub look!

December 1st means twelve days of fitness at Orange Theory. The goal is to do six workout classes in twelve days in December. It also means the last push until the new year. Are there any new goals that you are trying to achieve?  These were my goals this month! (Honestly the push up goal has been a goal for a while). We will definitely miss our papillion and downtown Omaha gym OTF people, we’ve really grown close to this crowd!

First off, let’s talk about our next assignment. We are headed to Anchorage, Alaska. If anyone knows me, I have been talking about Alaska since we started travel nursing. I’ve been really wanting to go there. I am very happy and excited this contract worked out. I’ve been trying to “convince” Nick that this is the right decision. We decided that it’s the best time, if not any. My brother Michael got engaged in September, and is getting married in May. We figured we are going to stop travel nursing in the summertime. If we don’t do Alaska now, we probably wouldn’t get to it. So… who doesn’t want to go to Alaska in January? We start January first. Are any of our readers from Alaska ? Has anyone visited? Tips and favorite places visited?

Nick said, ” I’m gonna wear my winter coat for the picture”. Not sure if my mom would find this funny. Nick didn’t even own a winter coat when we started dating… My mom asked him where his coat was and he said he didn’t own one. Can anyone guess what he got for Christmas that year?

I wanted to bring you on our travel plans. First off, we have to travel home to NH, before we think of getting to our next assignment.  We start out with a rough draft that looks like this.

We went to our favorite coffee shop in Omaha this weekend and did a rough draft.

We do a rough draft of our travel plans that consist of driving distances, and activity stops. We first look at the overall route to go back home, and we start to break it down by looking at each state, and how long it takes to get through that distance. We look at where we would want to explore, and go from there. For example, the first night we start in Papillion, Nebraska and plan on driving to a town outside of Kansas City. We plan on stopping in Kansas City to enjoy Christmas festivities. We plan to stop about forty minutes outside of Kansas City, as we can do our exploring, but also get IHG rewards.  Don’t forget about those credit card and hotel rewards! After we hit our rough draft, we go into more detail. Check out the next blog for extensive road trip travel planning! Jingle date night is coming this week also. Let the festivities begin.
