Welcome to Spooky Date Night Two. Tonight’s spooky activities include a craft, movie, and dessert. Nick definitely enjoyed the movie and dessert… unsure what he really thought about the craft part! Now let’s get this spooky party started:
Craft Supplies:
- Cheesecloth
- Canvas (dollar tree sells for cheap)
- paint
- Paintbrush
- Hot glue gun
- Mod podge
- Bowl
- Halloween music
- Florals or other decorating items
Directions:
- First off, get in the mood and put some spooky music on. Turn off the phones and put them away. Go over the directions of the project. If you need ideas or inspiration for your project, phones are ok to use, but otherwise it’s time for a break from social media and screen time!
- Get a canvas, and paint the back of the canvas. You can also buy a pre-buy black canvas. We went this route! If you are painting the canvas, let it dry.
- Determine the size of the cheesecloth for your ghost. Pinch the top and lay in the center of the canvas. Cut the bottom of the cheesecloth. It doesn’t have to be perfect!
- Next, prepare your mixture. Mix one part mod podge, and one part water in the bowl. When we did this, we realized we did too much water. You need to make sure its about 50/50.
- Put the cheesecloth in the bowl one at a time. Saturate the cheesecloth really well, but when you take it out of the mixture, squeeze the excess really well.
- Next lay your ghost on the canvas, and shape the ghost the way you want. It took a little bit to get the shape we wanted.
- After you get the right spooky ghost shape, paint over the ghost with more of the 50/50 mod podge water mixture.
- After the ghost dries, paint eyes, add florals , and other decorations to the canvas with hot glue. You can also add other decor with paint. Get creative!
