The positive of getting to Spokane at a reasonable time was being able to enjoy the hot tub, have a drink, and watch some tv. We are currently watching Winning time. Have you seen it? I’m not a huge basketball fan, but I’m totally hooked on it. We started season two episode one last night.
Today we are doing our longest drive of our road-trip. We are planning on doing approximately 12 hours of driving, and with the time difference to mountain time, it makes the day feel even longer. We typically try to do a long day on our road-trip, so we can do some more exploring another day. It’s definitely a trade off, but it’s worth it in the end. We are driving from Spokane, Washington to Custer, South Dakota.
Before I brag about all the Spokane favorites that we had this morning, we will start with our facts of the day.
Dominique: As many of you know, nursing wasn’t my original plan. I wanted to be a vet. To hear a little bit about this story, check out my about me blog. My last two assignments in Washington and Oregon, I have become super obsessed with whales… I can’t wait to share my whale watching experiences with y’all. It’s been so great! Honestly, nicks was sick of me asking, “do you see any whales?” Puget Sound is right outside Seattle and was near our last assignment. Sea world and Miami Seaquarium used to capture orcas in Puget Sound. With a lot of dedication and protesting, an orca that has been captive for over 50 years at Miami Seaquarium in unhealthy living environments has an official release back to Puget Sound. Lolita, also known as Tokitae, is from the L pod of the southern resident community and has been captive since September 1970. The L pod is the largest pod of the southern resident orcas. I’m having a whale of a time telling you about whales, but let’s talk a little bit about today. We started today with our Spokane favorites. I was telling Nick that as a travel nurse don’t fall in love with anything. You fall in love with that ice coffee, or that perfect bagel and bam, the 13 weeks is up. Thomas hammer and hidden bagel? My two local Spokane favorites of 13 weeks. It’s what got us through the 13 hour drive today. We typically don’t stop for lunch so we try to find a good breakfast spot in the morning!
Nick: We all have cute names for our husband or wife. Whether this nickname may be, honey, baby, sweetie, sugarlips, honeypie, etc. Well… I call my wife something different. Every relationship has a passenger princess, and my wife is the true passenger princess. I have to remind the passenger princess that we share the responsibility of driving on these long drives sometimes, but she’s a good sport. She does do her fair share of driving on these long drives, but anything three hours of less, I just don’t bother asking. The typical answer is, “you are just an expert” or “you are really good at it”. Are you the passenger princess or the driver? Give your answer in the comments. Join me my passenger princesses.

A pretty girl that has no other job but to look pretty in the passenger seat while her sneaky link/boyfriend/significant other drives.
We stopped in Missoula along the way to stretch. Does this carousel look familiar at all?

This feels like forever ago. At least this time it was more than 0 degrees!

We drove through a lot of Montana and Wyoming. If you have driven through Montana or Wyoming, you know it’s a lot of hay and hills. Honestly, its alot of nothing and exits of “no service”.
We were disappointed that it was dark when we drove through Upton, Wyoming. Check out some photos of Upton, Wyoming in April 2022. Nick and I got an absolute kick out of their slogan.

We’ve arrived in Custer, South Dakota. At least that’s what the GPS is telling us… can’t see anything in the dark! We’ve made it through our longest day of driving and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s day of exploring/short drive.
