Seattle Solo Day Trip

Hello friends, fellow travelers, and fellow bloggers! We recently started our contract in Everett, Washington. If you don’t know where Everett is located, it is approximately 35 minutes outside of Seattle. My husband works the “normal human hours”, meanwhile I’m working the nursing hours. Last week I worked the weekend, which means I had a few weekdays off. I solo visited Seattle twice, and really enjoyed it! Nick and I have gone to Seattle before when we had an assignment in Spokane, but I wanted to suggest something to do, as a travel nurse who possibly is traveling alone. We always look for those local spots, but we also have to hit those “tourist-y” spots. Let’s hit some of those “tourist-y”
spots.

Pike Place Market

Honestly, this is one of the biggest tourist attractions of Seattle. Locals avoid the Pike Place Market at all cost, as it causes so much traffic, and it’s absolute craziness. Honestly… I love it though. This place is dangerous. I am serious… so dangerous. I feel like my wallet is in danger of me possibly buying everything. There are so many good local creative vendors. Vendors gather together daily to sell fresh vegetables, flowers, and boutiques. The market is open seven days a week from 9 am to 6 pm. After you are done checking out the vendors, head to see some of the fish throwing. This is probably the best show at the Pike Place Market and it draws quite the crowd. This is definitely the most popular attraction at the Pike Place Market. Pike Place Fish Market are known for the “flying fish throw”, but aside from fish tossing, they have a huge selection of fish for sale and they ship to anywhere in the US. Even if you miss the fish tossing show, stick around and you possibly get to try the catch of the day. The flower vendors are incredible. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first went.. Everyone always laughs at me, but I always buy myself flowers every week. The first time I went I was so mad that I had just bought my clearance 3.99 flowers the day before. I need to scoop the flowers on my next solo trip to Seattle. These flowers are to die for, can you guess the price also? They price them so well! I could go on for days about the food and drinks at the Pike Place Market. Nick and I had so many good things when we visited back last year on our Spokane Assignment. When I went solo, I actually didn’t eat or drink anything… guilty as charged. We’ll have to circle back to this
one another time. When you are finished up with the vendors and the fish throwing, get your bubblicious gum and start chewing!

The Gum Wall

The Gum Wall is located on post alley near Pike Street, south of the Market’s main entrance off 1st Avenue. It’s a famous brick wall covered in used chewing gum located in Seattle. Yes, how gross…It’s also named the second germiest tourist attraction in the world. Can you name the number one attraction? People have been adding to the gum wall since the 1990’s, it has actually been cleaned before and people still added to it afterwards. At 8 feet high and 54 feet wide, there are an estimated 50 pieces of gum per brick or over 250,000 wads of gum on the wall. Are you too grossed out or are you going to add another piece. After you decide what you are going to do with your piece of gum, head over to the amazon spheres. It’s about a mile walk away. There are uber, lyft, taxi, or you can do what I did and enjoy the sunshine and walk!

The Amazon Spheres

The Amazon Spheres are lush botanical gardens open for public tours by appointment. One of the spheres is used for a free art exhibit. The free art exhibit is called Understory. The Understory hosts artists with an array of mediums and practices that supports the local Seattle art community. The particular day I visited the Understory. Katie Todaro’s pieces were displayed the day I visited the Understory. Kate Todaro’s pieces were very creative and beautiful. It’s definitely a great thing to check out in the area. I didn’t tour the inside of the spheres, but you can book them online. A lot of the spheres are used for amazon employees offices. After checking out the spheres, head over to the space needle. This is approximately 0.7 miles away. It was a beautiful day in Seattle. No rain in the sky (surprising I know)!

The Space Needle

Nick and I have done the tour of the space needle before, so I didn’t go up again. My parents are actually visiting in July, so we may do it again. This past week I ended up just looking around the area. I felt like I couldn’t end my Seattle solo day without seeing the Space Needle! Seattle is a great solo day for any travel nurse or even anyone. It is a very walkable city and the directions are so easy. The Flowers at the Pike Place Market were 20 dollars. Isn’t that crazy!? The germiest attraction in the world is the Blarney stone in Ireland. That one I actually had to look up. I didn’t know that one. I don’t think you can convince me to do that one honestly… So, where’s my next solo day trip gonna be?
