Solon Ohio to Chicago Illinois

Hi friends! I’m happy you decided to join us back for more. Of course, we are gonna start out with an interesting fact or something new that we learned. My husband is like a sponge of information. My mom likes to call it interesting facts and I like to call it useless knowledge. I guess it’s how you spin it. He spends his time researching things, looking things up, and listening to random podcasts. He especially likes movies, US history, and sports. Sometimes it comes in handy… you want him on your team for trivia pursuit.

I absolutely love large animals like bison and cows, but I HATE birds. My husband’s family visited a zoo when we first started dating and I was… just not well.

Peak the bison in the background! This was at badlands national park. So cool

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room ( I just have to share this little side story about the fact that my four year old niece said this to my mom a few weeks ago. To answer your question, no she didn’t know what it means, she saw it on a tv show).I really got beef with Buffalo, NY. We were driving through Buffalo and meanwhile on the side of the road, we saw fake Buffalo. Who does that?! I almost made us turn around!

Yesterday we drove 10.5 hours to Solon, Ohio. We stayed at a Springhill Suites by Marriott. We were able to eat at a local restaurant last evening, the Rusty Bucket. When Nick came up with this option, I was really questioning it. For a small town, the food was really tasty and the vibes were good! It was just what we needed after a long day.

This morning we started our journey to the Windy City, Chicago. I was telling our nursing travel friends at lunch yesterday that you can’t just travel for 10.5 hours with no fun stops. Today we have a shorter drive to Chicago, IL. It will take us approximately six hours. A six hour drive is a breeze to us. Which means…we get to do some exploring!

We started our morning at Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We were greeted by many deer when we were driving into the national park. The area surrounding the visitor center had a nice river and bridge. Our friend Tricia got us binoculars for Christmas, so we were able to use those to check out the pretty scenery! There was some pretty artwork around the visitor center.

We decided to hike the Blue Hen Falls. We look at All trails for different hiking suggestions and we also look at conditions. Unfortunately, we were not able to get to the falls due to icy and slippery conditions. We always review the conditions on AllTrails for other hikers. Check out the AllTrails app for your next hike!

We headed to Indiana to visit Indiana Dunes National Park. This was about a four and a half hour drive. During this time, Nick and I agreed that Ohio and Indiana had the WORST ez pass system (take a ticket, why do I need a ticket?) and we also started a trivia podcast ( because I needed to add to his useless knowledge).

The Indiana Dunes National Park is a lot different than the other national parks we have been to. We asked the park ranger for some good views and what he suggested in the park. He was able to point out some good sights. We checked out Lake View Beach. Lake view beach was a great view that overlooked Lake Michigan. It also was supposed to include the Chicago skyline if the clouds cooperated. Come on clouds!

We now arrived in our final destination for the evening, Chicago. We are going to enjoy walking around the city before some deep dish pizza of course. Have you been to Chicago? What’s your favorite Chicago site?
